Koala Crate - December 2014 - Safari

Koala Crate is a relatively new subscription box that was started by the very popular, very successful company, Kiwi Crate, and Highlights Magazine. Koala Crate is geared towards kids who are 3 to 4 years old. Kiwi Crate is for kids aged 4 to 9 years old. Tinker Crate and Doodle Crate are aimed at the inventors or crafty-types aged 9 to 14 years old.

Kiwi Crate offered a very inexpensive first box to try recently and I decided to get one for Red, knowing that he was a bit under the target age, but wanting something more hands-on than we've had with Citrus Lane. It arrived today and so here is the unboxing.

The first thing you see is a themed magazine in the style of Highlights. There are little puzzles, activities, like learning how to do the "Elephant Walk", and stories. Red loves books and treats them gently so we will really enjoy this!

There is a lot in this little box. There are some heavy-duty cards with animals on them. They are matching cards and the "Instructions and Inspiration" for the grown-up assistant give you two different games that can be played with them. We also have hand puppets, animal faces, and animal bellies. Together with these parts you can create some touch-and-fell puppets and there is a safari search game using them and included search sheets as a suggestion. We also have some books suggestions and using a Android or Apple phone and the appropriate app, we can find more ideas.

I am very excited to try this out with Red. A monthly plan runs $19.95 a month and they get cheaper as you purchase a longer-term plan. A 36-month subscription (paid up front) runs $12.95 a month.

I'll add my final thoughts after Red and I have a chance to do the activities.

Hello World!

Welcome to my little place for the miscellaneous parts of my life - product reviews, fun activities that I undertake with my kiddos, and the fun of cooking around allergies and Celiac.

I am a 32-year old working mom of two. I'm married to the Geek, who dabbles in breaking stuff (works in IT) and loves being a dad. I have Red, my 2-year-old who is rambunctious and so much fun. He's in that fun stage of wanting to do everything himself, getting into everything, and listening to nothing that we say. The newest edition to our little team is Little Bits. He's 10 months old and just a little love. He was born 6 weeks early and we hadn't decided on a name so the NICU team nicknamed him Little Bits. He enjoys clapping, smiling, laughing, and pulling hair.

We have lived in Alaska for 4.5 years now and we are always trying to expand our list of things to do.
